United Way campaign kicks off

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Anyone can be a hero!  That's the theme of this year's United Way campaign for the Chattahoochee Valley.

Thursday was the kickoff for the annual fundraising campaign. Hundreds of people packed the Trade Center for the kickoff luncheon, including a crew from News Leader 9.

This year's goal is lofty: organizers hope to raise $7 million to support programs right here in our community.

"You give here, it stays here it stays here," says Scott Ferguson, United Way President and CEO. "It's agencies from after school programs, feeding people, shelter, homelessness, hospice, counseling consumer credit. It really adds to the quality of life in this area. So, when you give to the United Way, you never know who you're gonna help."

The United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley currently has 26 community partner agencies and funds 50 programs that help thousands of individuals and families in the region.
