Washington Road widening to start Tuesday in Columbia Co.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -

Construction work for the widening of a 2.9-mile stretch of Washington Road in Columbia County will start Tuesday.

The limits for the project are from William Few Parkway to Gibbs Road, said Pam Tucker, Columbia County EMA director. It includes the widening of the G.B. "Dip" Lamkin Bridge over Euchee Creek.

The widening is going to take an estimated three years, Tucker said.

Crews will initially be clearing and grubbing the new right-of-way limits of the project. Clearing operations will begin on the western end of the project at Willam Few Parkway and work eastward toward Gibbs Road.

Columbia County officials encourage drivers to take an alternate route or allow additional time for commuting when the work starts.
