Plans to build an outlet mall at I-20 and Riverwatch Parkway were canceled, according to the developer for the project, Ben Carter Enterprises.
Groundbreaking on the mall was scheduled for December, but the developer decided to withdraw its plans.
"While the Augusta retail trade area's strong demographics remain attractive, I have decided to focus my efforts on the restoration of Broughton Street in Savannah's Historic District and the development and lease-up of Tanger Outlets Savannah in Pooler," Ben Carter said in a statement.
The developer said his company has committed more than $75 million to Broughton Street. He also said they are looking for opportunities to restore other downtown areas in the southeast.
A new movie theater is still planned for the Village at Riverwatch, which is already home to Costco and Cabela's.
