TALIAFERRO COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - The Taliaferro County Sheriff's Office has taken a man into custody after he barricaded himself in a house for seven and a half hours.
Charles Reed, 34, surrendered to authorities around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Around 12:20 p.m. Sunday, Reed's girlfriend called police saying Reed had ran her off the road twice on Highway 22 at Hitson Porter.
She also said Reed had her blocked in and was trying to get into her vehicle.
Two deputies arrived on scene and approached Reed, but he fled.
One deputy stayed with Reed's girlfriend while the other chased Reed for 3 miles before Reed's vehicle went off-road into the woods near his house. Reed managed to barricade himself in his home.
Reed's girlfriend said Reed was possibly armed with a .22 rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun.
Deputies from the Taliaferro County Sheriff's Office, Wilkes County Sheriff's Office, Richmond County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation surrounded the home.
Deputies heard what they believed to be a single gun-shot come from within the house.
Authorities tried to talk to Reed many times unsuccessfully. When all attempts were unsuccessful, the Georgia State Patrol SWAT Team was contacted and responded to the scene.
Around 7 p.m., the GSP SWAT Team spoke over the loud speaker for Reed to exit the house.
On the third try, Reed exited the house with his hands in the air and was taken into custody by the GSP and Taliaferro County Sheriff's Office without a struggle.
Investigators confirmed that a shot had been fired and multiple weapons were confiscated.
No shots were ever fired by law enforcement officers.
Reed was charged with aggravated assault, second-degree criminal damage to property and eluding law enforcement. Deputies said additional charges are pending.
