Charter bus catches fire in parking lot at Augusta Exchange

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A charter bus caught fire in a parking lot on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway Friday morning, according to the Augusta Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to 254 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway in the Augusta Exchange shopping area around 11 a.m. and found black smoke coming from a Horizon Motor Coach bus. They were able to extinguish the flames immediately.

The battalion chief on duty said it appeared that heat from the exhaust ignited shrubbery in the parking lot where the bus was parked, according to a press release from the fire department. The flames from the shrubbery then ignited the bus.

The driver was the only person in the bus, and he made it out safely.

The owner of Horizon Motor Coach said the bus was burnt beyond repair.
