AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A Richmond County deputy was injured Friday afternoon while he was interviewing a man at an Augusta motel, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputy Jason Cunningham responded to Knights Inn at 210 Boy Scout Road just after noon after an employee called about suspicious activity near room 331.
Cunningham was interviewing a man when the man jumped a fence and ran, according to the sheriff's office. Before Cunningham could jump the fence, an unknown person struck him in the back of his head, causing a minor concussion.
Cunningham was transported to University Hospital, where he is being treated. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
A K9 unit searched the area for suspects, but didn't find anyone.
