JOHNSTON, SC (WFXG) - A Trenton man was arrested after driving off in a Toyota Tacoma. There was only one problem, he stole it.
Bobby Lee Kittrell was arrested in Lexington County after fleeing Johnston, where he allegedly stole the vehicle.
Johnston police said Kittrell was waiting in the passenger side of the pick-up truck when the victim went into IGA, along Lee Street. That's when Kittrell drove off, leaving the victim stranded.
Police said the two men, both the victim and the suspect, were co-workers and had been working on a house in Johnston. The victim stopped at the IGA to pick up some items for his drive back to Trenton. When Kittrell stole the truck, it had a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol inside of it and at the time, so he was considered armed and dangerous.
Johnston police contacted nearby agencies, and eventually Kittrell was arrested in Lexington County, where he remains.
"They had some charges on him themselves, so subsequently, when he's finished with Lexington County charges, he will be picked up by the police department in Johnston and brought over to the Edgefield County detention center to be booked in and processed for the warrant that he has for his arrest here," said Lamaz Robinson, the interim police chief for the Johnston Police Department.
Kittrell will be charged with grand larceny of over $2,000.
