AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The driver of a garbage truck that overturned off Highway 56 Monday morning has died, according to the Richmond County Coroner's Office.

Kennedy Fordham, 31, was pronounced dead at 12:29 p.m. at Georgia Regents Medical Center, Chief Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose said. He died of multiple system trauma.

Fordham was extricated from the garbage truck after it crashed down a ravine at 4789 Rollins Road around 8:30 a.m., according to the Augusta Fire Department. He was operating the truck for his employer, Metropolitan Waste.

The coroner's office said Fordham's brother also was in the truck at the time of the crash. He did not have serious injuries but was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center for observation.

Firefighters, first responders and a towing company worked together to pull the truck up the ravine and remove Fordham.

An autopsy for Fordham is scheduled for Tuesday at the GBI crime lab in Atlanta.
