AG Herring asks Supreme Court to review Virginia's marriage equality case

Posted: Updated:
(WSLS) - Attorney General Mark Herring has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review Virginia's marriage equality case.

The request says, in part, that the issue of same sex marriage is vital to a large population of same-sex couples.

After being sworn-in as attorney general in January, Herring said Virginia's same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional.

The Bostic vs. Rainey case over the legality of Virginia's ban is currently being appealed in federal court.

Two judges have ruled it unconstitutional.
