JOHNSON COUNTY, IA (KFXA/KGAN/FOX) - Politics and football are two of Iowa's favorite pastimes, so there is little surprise the two are about to collide.

Johnson County is ready to kick off a new satellite voting program at area football games.

Bringing the voting booth to the big game might seem like a small thing to tackle, but for busy parents it could be a big play.

"I think if voting is there where people are already going, then it makes it so much more convenient," said mother Suzanne Halekas. "Combining trips is huge when you're a parent."

Her 2-year-old Grady already keeps her on the go. With another baby on the way, Halekas loves the idea, even if they are a long way from high school.

Paying admission for games is not required to vote at the booths.

County Auditor Travis Weipert is hoping the mobile sites help to increase the visibility of elections, so even youngsters get on track with voting.

"We'll be out there, they'll see the equipment, they'll see mom and dad voting," Weipert said. "So hopefully, when they hit 18 or when we're out doing our drives in the spring, they show up and register to vote."
