TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Tempe residents dealing with yard debris from Sunday's storm are getting a helping hand from the city.

They'll be able to call for a special collection pickup for downed trees and damaged vegetation.

Eligible residents must live in the area from McClintock Drive to Evergreen Road and Broadway to US 60.

They must call 480-350-4311 by Aug. 14.

Homeowners are asked to follow these guidelines:

  • Material should be cut into sections no longer than 6 feet and less than 19 inches in diameter.
  • Residents with curbside collection should place material at the front of the property (not blocking street or sidewalk). Residents with alley collection should place material in the alley (not blocking alleyway).
  • Material should be placed at least 5 feet away from utility poles, cable boxes and water meters.
  • For those with alley trash collection, place bagged material in regular 300-gallon trash container in alley. If the closest container is full, use the next closest. For those with curbside collection, place bags in regular 90-gallon trash container.

The collection is intended for damaged vegetation only, the city said. Other bulk items should not be included. Roofing material, construction waste and commercial/business waste are prohibited.
