MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Jackson Hospital is now home to a new medical school campus that will train third and fourth year osteopathic medical students.

A reception honoring the 2014-2015 students was held Monday night at the hospital.

This fall fourteen students from the Alabama Medical Education Consortium are performing their clinical rotations alongside Jackson Hospital's physicians.

For 10 years, Jackson has been a host site for rotations for students through AMEC, which will become incorporated into the new Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine this fall.

The students currently at Jackson Hospital are still transitioning from out-of-state osteopathic schools. The first class of the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine will become third-year students in July 2015.

When fully developed, the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine will have a total of 40 medical school students on the Jackson Hospital campus.
