Tallapoosa County man found pinned under tractor

TALLAPOOSA CO., AL (WSFA) -

A Tallapoosa County man died late Wednesday afternoon while cutting grass at his daughter's home near Jacksons' Gap in Tallapoosa County.

Roland Walker, 74, was just a lap away from wrapping up his mowing duties around his oldest daughter's pond, a two-acre body of water located off Horseshoe Bend Road.

"The more I think about it the more I think he had a heart attack. The funeral home people told me he didn't have any water in his lungs," said Walker's wife, Margie.

Roland Walker apparently had his medical crisis, lost control of his tractor and ended up in the shallow part of the pond pinned underneath the 1,000 pound tractor.

He was a miltary veteran and later spent years in the textile industry with Russell Textile. The family remembered Roland Walker as someone who loved life, loved his country but his family more.

He never let a personal challenge defeat him.

"He was a good man, a great father. He loved helping people and enjoyed mowing the grass," said Audrey White, Walker's daughter.

"He had shoulder surgery. He had foot surgery. It was one thing after another, but he was proud of what he did in his life,"said Margie Walker.
