Washington law enforcement contract price goes up

WASHINGTON, GA (WFXG) - A new contract has been approved for the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office to patrol the city of Washington, Ga.

Council met Friday morning to approve the deal. In a 3-2 vote, the Sheriff's Office will be paid $516,000 per year, according to Councilman Marion Tutt.

The original estimate was $400,000.

The move comes after a July decision that disbanded the municipal police department.
