Richard L. Woods wins recount in GA schools superintendent Republican primary runoff

ATLANTA, GA (WFXG) -

Richard L. Woods is the winner of the Republican primary runoff recount in the race for Georgia school superintendent, Secretary of State Brian Kemp said Thursday.

The recount was requested by Woods' opponent, Michael L. Buck, who ended the primary with 49.91 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results after the July 22 race. The recount confirmed that percentage.

Woods earned just over 50.09 percent, which was also confirmed in the recount.

The recount was conducted by each county election superintendent. Secretary of State Brian kemp certified the recount results Thursday.

Certification does not stop the state from continuing any current investigations related to the general primary or from pursuing any future allegations that may arise from the election, Kemp said.
