(FOX19) -

The mysterious "woman in black", who recently became a social media sensation after being spotted in several states, has reached her destination.

According to the Winchester Police Department in Virginia, the woman says she is from Winchester and plans on staying there.

Police say about 50 people gathered near a bank in the area to see the woman Tuesday night. For her safety, police took her to an undisclosed location and provided her with food and shelter.

Now police are telling residents that the woman wants to be a part of the community and to respect her privacy.

She told local police that she wishes to be left alone and she asks the public to respect those wishes.

According to WATE in Tennessee, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office said the woman's name is Elizabeth Poles. She told them she is from Motts, Alabama.
