PORTLAND, OR (RNN) – Forget those boring 20th century coolers – buy into its technologically-savvy new millennium version and the popular brainchild of Ryan Grepper.

Grepper’s invention is the “Coolest Cooler,” and it’s set to break a Kickstarter record. The crowdsourcing project has raised more than $7 million from more than 35,000 backers with 36 days to go.

“Regular coolers are boring, break easily and are a hassle to haul around just to carry the ice,” Grepper said on his Kickstarter page. “The COOLEST cooler is 60 quarts of AWESOME packed with so much fun you'll look for excuses to get outside more often.”

The Portland, OR resident has far exceeded his original goal of $50,000. This campaign is a second attempt for crowdsourcing for Grepper, who made his first attempt last winter and fell short of his goal.

The 60-quart cooler has all of the modern-day bells and whistles, including: an 18-volt battery-powered and rechargeable blender that crushes ice, a waterproof and removable Bluetooth speaker, LED lid light, a bottle opener, USB charger, integrated storage for plates and knives and a cutting board.

Grepper plans of providing several colors of the Coolest Cooler in sangria, margarita, blue moon, cosmo, blue curacao and others. There’s also a Facebook drive, asking fans to vote on two more colors.

The planned retail price for the Coolest Cooler is $299, but early backers get the cooler with a pledge of $165, with distribution set for February 2015.

According to the website Kicktraq, Grepper’s project is set to raise $21,916,757 by its end date of Aug. 28.

The current all-time record for most crowdsourced project is the Pebble e-Watch, a customizable watch that users can sync to their smartphones and is available for iPhone and Android devices. The device raised more than $10 million in 2012.
