Daycare employee arrested for battery against child

EVANS, GA (WFXG) - A worker at A Child's World in Evans has been arrested following an incident involving battery of a child.

Meloni Williams, 32, faces a misdemeanor charge of battery, according to Columbia County Sheriff's Captain Steve Morris.

According to Morris, the child's mother dropped him off on July 9, and when she picked him up, noticed scratches and abrasions on the child.

When the mother went back to the daycare to inquire, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office was called.

Upon reviewing surveillance video, Morris said, Williams dragged the child to a restroom for a couple minutes, and was seen coming out of the restroom, carrying the child, "almost like a football."

Morris said the worker was also seen shoving the child into a seat.

A misdemeanor charge of battery faces up to one year in jail and a $1000 fine.

Officials with A Child's World released this statement:

"We did conduct a proper investigation, and we did take the necessary actions."
