1 person dies, 2 injured after head-on collision in Aiken

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

One person was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision near Aiken Mall Wednesday morning, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

The wreck happened around 8 a.m. on Whiskey Road near East Gate Drive, said Detective Jeremy Hembree with the Aiken Department of Public Safety. A Honda Accord with two people inside collided head-on with a Dodge Ram.

The front-seat passenger in the Accord was transported to the hospital and later died, Hembree said. The driver of the Accord is in critical condition at Georgia Regents Medical Center. 

The driver of the Dodge Ram suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The Aiken County Coroner's Office has not yet released the identity of the person killed.
