(FOX News) – As the saying goes, it's the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Millions around the world watched as Germany earned top honors in this year's World Cup final. They defeated Argentina one to nothing in extra time in the sometimes violent and bloody match

A countless number of German soccer fans were thrilled as the victory ended the country's 24-year wait since their last World Cup title.

"What happened here was amazing, I have no words," a German fan said. "The whole team and the coach won the Cup and not just one player."

The excitement in Rio rivaled the enthusiasm on the streets of Berlin

"That's the best you can do," Marc Boewein said. "I've been waiting for this moment for 24 years. Thank you Germany."

"It's wonderful, we are so happy, they played and thought well," Marie Richter said. "They deserve it."

While some say it was a well-fought match. The heartbreak for some Argentines was just too much to bear.

Outside the stadium in Rio, police used pepper spray against a group of Argentinean fans who blocked a street.

Things were worse in Buenos Aires as a peaceful rally celebrating their gutsy performance was disrupted. Riot police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to restrain the unruly group.

Some members of the Argentine community in Miami, FL handled the loss much better, taking it in stride.

"It was a great game," Luciano Rappa said. "What can I say, great game, it went down to overtime. The best team won. Till the next time."

And that next time will be in 2018. And for the first time ever, Russia will play host to the international event.
