BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Tiger Stadium is now the nation’s fifth largest college football venue with a stadium capacity of 102,321, the school announced on Friday.
Tiger Stadium is in the final stages of the south endzone expansion that will move it to No. 2 in the SEC behind only Tennessee (102,455) in stadium capacity.
“We are listing a stadium capacity now rather than seating capacity, which is in line with what other schools in the SEC are doing,” LSU associate athletic director for tickets operations Brian Broussard said. “The stadium capacity takes into account ancillary groups, such as media, game management and concessions staff.”
LSU was recently named by Athlon Sports as the No. 1 place in the nation to watch a college football game.
“The south endzone addition brings much more to Tiger Stadium than just seats,” LSU vice chancellor and director of athletics Joe Alleva said. “As part of the expansion we have added two high-definition video boards, two additional LED ribbon boards and replaced the two LED ribbon boards that already existed in the stadium all in an effort to enhance the in-game experience for our fans.
“We are also in the process of installing a stadium-wide system that will allow our fans to have better cellular connectivity, which has become such a big part of the fan experience.”
LSU will play its first game in the newly expanded Tiger Stadium on Sept. 6 when the Tigers host Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m. on the SEC Network. The Tigers open their 10th season under Les Miles a week earlier on Aug. 30 against Wisconsin in Houston at the Advocare Texas Kickoff.
