ISP: Move over for emergency vehicles

Posted: Updated:

Indiana State Police are asking for drivers to move over if they see an emergency vehicle pulled over to the side of the road.

State police tell 14 News it was the cause for an accident involving a state trooper last week on I-64.

Trooper Sergeant Phillip Hensley tweeted a picture today after he said several cars failed to move over for him while he was working a scene on I-64 Thursday morning.

He says, "We're tired of it quite frankly. For emergency personnel, wrecker drivers, construction workers, people that are stopped on the side of the road with their lights on, its already a dangerous job."

Hensley adds, "you're literally within a foot a lot of times between the fog line and our cars, so that's not a lot of room."

In Indiana it's a law to move over for emergency vehicles and you can be ticketed if you don't.
