EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville Mayor Winnecke announced an agreement to help residents that may be dislocated by the potential move by D-Patrick Ford.

Mayor Winnecke says the Affordable Housing Trust is granting $20,000 to help relocate families displaced by D-Patrick Ford.

That money was collected over the years from riverboat funds. Officials voted unanimously to use it to help those in need.

The money will be given as a grant to the Memorial Community Development Corporation, who will in turn meet with residents to gauge their individual needs.

D-Patrick Ford Owner Mike O'Daniel says they will immediately reimburse the money if D-Patrick buys the land. He says he doesn't want the move to negatively impact people.

"When we found out people were being displaced by us moving a car dealership in there, that didn't feel very good," said O'Daniel. "Especially as the people came out and spoke to us and we realized the dire situation, many of these people have no money. So we wanted to help them. It's the perfect solution, we can reimburse the city, the city can take care of the people, through the charity. It's a great three way partnership. But we didn't want charitable funds to go out for our moving our business."

"They actually got out and helped us like they said they was," said Mary Phillips. "I don't have to worry about it now, I appreciate it. They didn't leave us hanging, they promised their word and they kept it and I'm proud."

The Area Plan Commission unanimously approved a re-zoning ordinance for the property.

Now the proposal goes to the City Council on Monday.
