Area teams work out in 7-on-7 games

With high school football season right around the corner, area teams are doing whatever it takes to prepare.

GHSA rules won't let teams begin preseason camp until later this month, so teams are having to improvise.

Albany, Terrell County, and Randolph-Clay met at AHS Wednesday to compete in 7-on-7 drills.

"We don't have an opportunity to have an actual football camp due to Georgia high school rules and regulations," says Albany head coach Felton Williams. "This is some very important work that we can get in during the summer as far as timing, and finding out who's ready and who may not be ready."

Coaches say it's always good to get the players in as many competitive situations as possible before the season begins.

"Some of the kids we're going to be counting on didn't play much last year," says Randolph-Clay head coach Daniel McFather.  "Even though it's not a contact game, it gives them a little feel of the game, what the pressure is, how they perform under pressure."

The high school football season kicks off on August 22.
