Stellar Communities visit Huntingburg

HUNTINGBURG, IN (WFIE) -

The Stellar Communities Committee was in Huntingburg Wednesday to tour the city and to hear the plans for the Stellar grant money.

Huntingburg was announced as a Stellar Communities finalist in March.

Since then the city has been coming up with an action plan for the $10-million it would receive, if the committee chooses them.

Mayor Dennis Spinner presented that plan Wednesday, which includes new downtown housing, redevelopment of the defunct St. Joseph Hospital, a new railroad overpass, and a new park and trail.

"Not only will this have a long-term impact on the City of Huntingburg, but this is a project, these projects and this Stellar designation will strengthen Dubois County and Southwestern Indiana," said Spinner."I know there are other communities nearby that have also earned Stellar designation. And this is a great step forward for Southwestern Indiana."

Mayor Spinner says the Lt. Governor's office will announce this year's Stellar designations in late August, likely around the time of the State Fair.
