Update: Aiken Public Safety makes arrest related to suspicious package at Whiskey

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - UPDATE: Aiken Public Safety officers say the Kroger parking lot on Whiskey Road is now open after they made an arrest in connection to the investigation of a suspicious package.

An Aiken Public Safety Officer saw a speeding vehicle on Whiskey Road.

The officer stopped the vehicle in the Kroger parking lot and found that the vehicle was a Breach of Trust vehicle.

The driver, Darin Lee Mabrey, of North Augusta had an active A.C.S.O. warrant and was taken into custody.

Authorities seized from the vehicle a quantity of a schedule IV substance, a quantity of Marijuana, and a suspicious package.

The Bomb Unit from SLED responded and rendered the suspicious package safe.

SLED agents collected the package and its contents for further examination in the SLED forensics lab.

Mabrey was arrest and faces the following charges: Breach of Trust of a Motor Vehicle, Driving under Suspension 2nd Offense, Possession of a Schedule IV Substance, Possession of Marijuana 2nd Offense, and Providing False information to a Public Safety Officer.

The investigation into the suspicious package is ongoing.

Officers from SLED, NAPS, and the A.C.S.O. are assisting with the investigation.
