4th of July benefit ride for woman with cancer

Posted: Updated:

In Spencer County a group decided to spend the Fourth of July Holiday raising money for a woman battling cancer.

What a better way to spend your Fourth of July then riding a motorcycle.

Just over a dozen riders took off from Yellig Park not to long ago on a benefit ride for a woman who's terminally ill with cancer.

This ride wouldn't have been possible without the love of her son-in-law.

Gina Foster has a form of skin cancer and has been told she doesn't have that much longer to live.

Her son-in-law Kevin Geer says he was challenged to come up with a benefit for Gina and came up with today's event.

Geer says thousands of dollars worth of raffle items were donated.

He says he wanted to help out his mother-in-law while he could.

Gina says she actually didn't know about the benefit until about a week ago.

"Since this has all happened she's been living with us," says Geer. "Seeing day for day what takes place with this illness, it just kept getting at me. I started looking at my own mortality and what I've done with my life."

"I about had a heart attack," says Foster. "It was just like 'oh my.'  I didn't know how to react.  It took my breath away."

Just because the ride is over, doesn't mean the benefit stops.

There's a free concert from Copperhead Creek at 6:00 on the 4th of July at Yellig Park.

There will be lots of raffles, food and all sorts of fundraisers going on to help Gina.
