Columbus Winn Dixie hosts military appreciation celebration

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Winn Dixie on Veterans Parkway honored our men and women in uniform on Thursday.

The store hosted an Independence Day celebration honoring our service members. There was a father and son performance of the Star-Spangled Banner using a baritone horn and trumpet.

The store also presented two checks, donating $4,500 to the House of Heroes and $2,000 to Warrior Outreach.

"We do that because of the way they support us, it only makes sense that we support them," said Richard McGough, district director for Columbus Market.

"And what they're doing for our community is helped through Warrior Outreach," added President and CEO of Warrior Outreach, retired Command Sgt. Maj. Samuel Rhodes. "It's helping us reach out to 40 families that will provide the funding for them to be able to take care of their families, when in the other case they may not have had."

Also, all Winn Dixie locations are offering double fuel perks on grocery purchases for active and retired military members through July 8.
