CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
An 18-year-old who was stabbed to death in his Charleston home last month was attacked with a kitchen knife while he was sleeping, according to court papers released Thursday afternoon.
Terrell Smith, 17, was arrested in Alabama in on June 16 and brought back to Charleston Wednesday to face charges of murder, attempted murder, burglary first degree and possession of a knife during a violent crime.
Smith is accused of killing Brandon Bennett and wounding Bennett's father in their home on Congress Street on June 11.
After bond court on Thursday afternoon, the victim's mother said her son and the suspect knew each other.
"He was a friend to him and showed compassion and we just want to know,” Latrease Bennett said.
A judge denied bond for Smith on three of the four charges.
Charleston Police investigators have not said if they have a motive for Brandon Bennett's murder.
