MARTINEZ, GA (WFXG) - The Warren Baptist Church kicked off the holiday week with a patriotic celebration Sunday.
The event featured Fort Gordon color guard and an orchestra. The church's choir sang while the audience recognized all of the veterans and active duty members in the community who fought for freedom.
"We gathered to have a freedom celebration and like so many other people in our land, we're just so grateful," said David McKinley, the church's Pastor. "There's been such a great price and a great cost for freedom. Freedom is never free and everything that we have, it has come at the expense of others."
The Columbia County Fourth of July celebration starts at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4th, at the Evans Towne Center Park. The City of Augusta's event begins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the Augusta Commons.
