The death of a man whose burned body was found in the backyard of a North Augusta home Friday was ruled a suicide, according to the Aiken County Coroner.

An autopsy showed that Charles D. McCarthy III died from thermal injury, Coroner Tim Carlton said. No suspicious injuries or trauma were found during the autopsy. Foul play is not suspected.

McCarthy's mother found his body in the backyard of his home at 814 Shawnee Dr. around 10:41 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Maurice Ransom with North Augusta Public Safety said.

The North Augusta Department of Public Safety is investigating, along with the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.
