WRENS, GA (WFXG) - The driver of a UHaul truck involved in a crash Thursday afternoon that killed two others has also died, according to the Jefferson County Coroner.
Wakfwen Dantome, 44, of Savannah died around 4 a.m. Friday, Coroner Edward James said.
Two women, 35-year-old Amy Caywood of Commerce, Ga. and 49-year-old Elise Cunningham of Louisville, Ga., died Thursday after the crash, James said. They were driving separate cars.
The wreck happened around 2:45 p.m. on Highway 1 south of Wrens near mile marker 24, Trooper Gerald Lyles with Georgia State Patrol said.
Witnesses told troopers the UHaul was trying to pass someone when it struck one of the cars, causing it to spin out and go into a ditch on the side of the road, Lyles said. The UHaul then crashed head on with another car.
Dantome was airlifted to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he later died, James said. All three people died from blunt force trauma.
