AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Utility bills this time of year can skyrocket, but some people in Columbia County are beating the heat and the charges.
An automated home in Evans is controlling the temperature with mobile devices and iPads. Comcast said the cost of heating and cooling is usually 48 percent of a utility bill.
"If you're one of those people who boosts your air all the way up to 80 degrees when you leave the house, you're not saving any money, "Comcast Vice President of Public Relations Alex Horwitz said. "This system learns your patterns, adjusts it accordingly and helps your house be more efficient."
The average U.S. household, according to Comcast, dedicates about five percent of their energy budget to lighting.
