AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - U.S. Rep. John Barrow is trying to help veterans in the 12th Congressional District who are having trouble with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Barrow will hold special veterans' office hours next week at locations throughout the district. Barrow said his office is able to intervene on behalf of a veteran who is having trouble connecting with or getting benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Officials from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Georgia Department of Veterans Services and several veterans' service organizations will be present to help veterans with claims.
"It's a disgrace that the VA has neglected so many of our veterans," Barrow said."While we work to rebuild the VA, we need to address the issues folks are facing right now. Sometimes a quick conversation can help resolve a veteran's problem, and sometimes more work is need. But we can help, and these special offices hours mean veterans will have access to their Congressman, the VA, and other organizations that can help."
The veteran's office hours are as follows:
Monday, June 30
Tuesday, July 1
Thursday, July 3
Monday, July 7
9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
