AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Doctors Hospital hosted a farmers market in the cafeteria to celebrate National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month, on Tuesday.
Employees and visitors got to sample a wide variety of foods, all grown in the state of Georgia.
Organizers of the event said the farmers market was to encourage healthy eating habits and buying food that is locally grown.
"We're trying to emphasize local, organic foods," said Matthew Shackleton, the executive chef at the hospital. "We're trying to emphasize people eating fresh vegetables which are much more health benefits from that and encourage people to purchase fresh vegetables, aside from your run-of-the-mill frozen or canned vegetables."
