Columbia Co. deputies chase woman knocking down mailboxes

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Neighbors on Pheasant Creek Drive in the River Ridge Subdivision are cleaning up a mess after a woman crashed her car on the street and destroyed property Monday night.

Lauren Fryer, 32, crashed her Subaru in the middle of the street then drove into a tree, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. A neighbor said she then got out of the car and started knocking down mailboxes.

"I saw flashlights flashing on my screen porch and I didn't think anything of it because there are kids in the neighborhood," longtime resident Ralph Angelo said. "And then I got a phone call from my neighbor across the street asking why police cars were in the front of my house."

Angelo said Fryer ended up ripping out part of his sprinkler, tore his neighbor's mailbox post out of the ground, took two other mailboxes down and kept going down the street. Columbia County officers found and arrested her a few minutes later.

"I'm going to have to buy one [a mailbox] and that'll cost me $40 to $50," Angelo said. "And then I will have to get components for a sprinkler head. That will cost me $20 or so."

Still, Angelo said he's just happy no one in the neighborhood was hurt.

Fryer is facing charges of criminal trespass, driving under the influence, striking a fixture, speeding and obstructing law enforcement. According to AugustaCrime.com, she posted a $10,000 bond.
