Beat the heat and check the back seat

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Officials are warning everyone to be mindful of the heat this summer, especially while in a car.

Columbia County Emergency Management said children, pets and even the elderly are often left in hot cars during this time of year. This can lead to death, since a car's temperature can rise 35 degrees in 30 minutes.

Officials recommend if you are traveling with a child in the backseat, wear something to remind yourself that they are there or bring a baby doll for the front seat.

They also recommend not leaving a pet inside a vehicle alone for any amount of time.
