Putnam Fuel Company, Inc. offers this helpful public service announcement about the costs and consequences of air conditioning dos and donts
According the heating and cooling experts at Putnam Fuel, while seemingly an everyday item thats rarely given a second thought, the air conditioning unit is actually a complex piece of equipment that requires proper upkeep. Unlike a fan that can be used again and again with no real maintenance needed, an air conditioner requires seasonal maintenance to ensure that its operating safely and efficiently.
Putnam Fuel, a growing family owned Fuel and Oil Service company in Goffstown, NH, understands the necessity of a properly maintained air conditioning unit and seeks to share their knowledge with consumers. Our number one goal here is to keep our clients healthy and safe said John Miles, President of Putnam Fuel.
As New Hampshire residents gear up for the hot summer months just around the corner, Miles offers three tips to help ensure that your air conditioning unit performs safely and efficiently:
1) Heating Coils make sure that both the indoor and outdoor heating coils are free from any dust build-up. An air conditioners indoor heating coil gets wet constantly during the cooling season, which causes it to act as a dust magnet. Dust build-up on the heating coils is the number one contributor to the reduced efficiency of an air conditioning unit.
2) Filters during the cooling season, be sure to change the filter (at least) once per month. A dirty filter greatly reduces the efficiency of an air conditioner. All filters have a MERV rating (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) from 1 to 12 the higher the number, the better filtration it provides. Higher-rated filters require more energy to pull the air through, so air quality concerns versus energy costs should be considered.
3) Temperature Settings the difference of just a few degrees can impact a homeowners wallet significantly. For example, changing your temperature setting from 73 to 76 degree Fahrenheit can result in an approximate 30% cost savings on an electricity bill. Recommended temperature settings are 76 to 78 degrees when at home and 80 degrees while away.
Every year, Putnam Fuel signs up dozens of new heating and air conditioning service plans. The company shared that the importance of a service plan cannot be underestimated.
Families in Southern NH need a service plan because, if they dont have one in place, they are risking the safety and health of their family and are likely paying too much in energy costs said Miles. Putnam offers a Central Air Service Plan that includes a tune-up to keep your air conditioning system running safely and at peak efficiency.
The air conditioning service technicians at Putnam Fuel are EPA Certified and are trained to work effectively and efficiently to accommodate a homeowners needs. They offer a full suite of services, including sales, installation, preventative maintenance and emergency services. All of Putnams service technicians have been trained and certified on all types of air conditioners including split systems, mini-split ductless systems, and all-in-one systems.
The firm also shared that letting an air conditioning unit go from season to season without proper, professional maintenance is a potential recipe for what they called, Serious harm. Putnam Fuel shares just a few of the common dangers that families face with air conditioning units that are not properly serviced or maintained:
A Putnam fuel spokesman offered that service and maintenance of your air conditioning unit by a certified professional is important and suggests that homeowners take action to keep their family safe.
