Clean elections director seeks probe of AG Horne

The director of the state's clean elections commission says a full investigation of Attorney General Tom Horne is needed to determine if he broke election laws.

Director Tom Collins wrote in a Tuesday recommendation to the full Citizens Clean Elections Commission that an inquiry into a complaint filed last month by former Horne staffer Sarah Beattie is needed.

Beattie alleges that Horne was using his executive staff to run his re-election campaign on state time.

Collins says Horne's formal response to Beattie's complaint not only didn't resolve the issue but lends support to her claims.

Horne has denied using his office staff for significant campaign work and has accused Beattie of making false claims against previous employers and that she failed to disclose previous drug use when she was hired.
