Family continues to hope for closure in Gayle McCaffrey case

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - The family of a missing West Ashley mother says they continue to hope for closure as investigators searched for clues on Friday in the disappearance of Gayle McCaffrey.

Investigators with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office announced Friday afternoon that a search in the area of Bees Ferry Road did not turn up any new leads on McCaffrey, who vanished in March of 2012.

CCSO crews searched Bees Ferry Road because it's not far from where McCaffery was last seen inside her own home off Highway 61.

Gayle McCaffrey's sister, Helen, said it's bittersweet when she gets a call about a new search for her sister.

Helen says the family is always hopeful investigators will find something, and it's painful when they don't. She said that she's felt, since day one, that something terrible happened to her sister.

Helen says her family has come to terms with that, and now they just want closure and to be able to bring Gayle home and lay her to rest.

Gayle McCaffrey was reported missing by her husband, Bob McCaffrey, who told deputies they had had an argument the night before she disappeared.

Helen said that she still feels in her heart that someone saw something that night and hopes new leads will come forward. As for McCaffrey's children, they are being raised by Gayle's family. Helen says they are doing fantastic and living a normal life.

A sheriff's office spokesman said there were no new leads that caused them to search on Friday, but they did think they needed to revisit and re-search the area because it's near McCaffrey's home.
