Paine College receives $400K for Upward Bound program

Paine College's TRIO / Upward Bound program for the 2014-2015 academic year has been renewed.

The college was awarded more than $400,000 in funding to allow the program to continue its outreach to under-served students in Richmond County high schools.

"It provides opportunities for students who are potential first-generation college students or they come from low-income families and they provide them with opportunities and support systems that they may not otherwise have," said Shellita Carlyle, the college's TRIO / Upward Bound director.

The program, designed to increase graduation rates at secondary education schools, will be renewed for up to five more years, depending on its performance.
