Strong storms leave damage behind in CSRA

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Strong storms moved through the CSRA late Tuesday into early Wednesday, leaving damage in their wake.

The awning of the Circle K service station on Washington Road near Boy Scout Road collapsed onto vehicles and gas pumps, according to our crew on the scene. It was unclear if anyone was injured during the ordeal.

A tree fell into the roadway on Alexander Drive, briefly blocking the road. Deputies were able to clear that within an hour of it falling.

WFXG's Nick Lulli was driving on Washington Road when the storms hit, and said electrical transformers exploded near Kroger on Washington Road. Parts of the area were without power for some time, according to Lulli.

Augusta Bush Field recorded a 47 mph wind gust and Daniel Field recorded a 52 mph wind gust with the storms moving through, according to the National Weather Service offices in Columbia, S.C.
