Civilians go through military training at Fort Gordon

FORT GORDON, GA (WFXG) -

Eight civilians are going through two days of military training at Fort Gordon Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Augusta in Army Boots Program participants are getting a taste of the training soldiers go through. This means wearing the full gear, learning hand to hand combat, and even firing some of the weapons.

Participant Kim Asbell with Doctor's Hospital of Augusta says the experience taught great leadership skills, and gave her a good idea of what our armed forces go through.

"I think it's very beneficial to know what our military goes through, even down to wearing the uniform and getting dirty," she says.

And if you would like to participate in the next training program in October you can call 706-791-1871.
