Two critically injured after explosion at radiator plant

EDGEFIELD COUNTY, SC (WFXG) -

An explosion at the TranTech Plant in Edgefield sent two men to the hospital with third degree burns.

Edgefield EMA says they received a call from the radiator plant around 9:00 a.m. and when they arrived found heavy smoke from an electrical fire.

One of the victims is suffering from third degree burns on 80% of his body, and the other is burnt on at least 40% of his body. Both men were taken to the Still Burn Center at Doctor's Hospital.

Officials say they believe the explosion may have been caused after a transformer self-destructed, but the official cause is still being investigated.
