AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Saturday was National Learn to Row Day and the Augusta Rowing Club helped people of all ages out on the Savannah River.
This is the thirteenth year the club has held classes as part of National Learn to Row Day, giving the community a chance to learn more about the sport and to get in a boat to row.
Instead of charging participants a fee, the club asked for donations to Golden Harvest Food Bank. Rowing coach Kay Fletcher says the club chose to collect donations because they wanted the event to be about more than rowing.
"We had someone who was connected with Golden Harvest and that was our introduction to a way of giving back to the community as well," Fletcher says.
