Drugs and money found in home near middle school

EVANS, GA (WFXG) - Four people were arrested in a drug bust Wednesday night. Deputies found a large amount of marijuana, pills, and $45,000 in cash.

Holly Colbert, Duane Houk, and his two sons Blaze and Storm Houk were arrested. They're facing a handful of charges, including possession of drugs with the intent to distribute.

The bust was less than a mile from Evans Middle School, and one student told WFXG she's appalled that she's glad that deputies found the drugs, and the suspects.

"it's a very bad thing. I'm thinking all of this is bad, because its right across from a school," Cristal Valdez, and 8th grader at Evans Middle School.

Lt. Buddy Wimmer, with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office said they learned about the operation through a tip.

"About a month long investigation by our narcotics investigators led to it," Wimmer said. "Through the search warrant we arrested a father and two sons and another female for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute."

Deputies confiscated two boats where they found bags of marijuana in hidden compartments, and the large sum of money hidden in the shed behind the home.

"Two and a half pounds of marijuana, they were obviously selling large qualities of marijuana especially with the cash associated with the case," said Wimmer.

Valdez said she's glad the men aren't on the streets anymore, and she has some advice for anyone who thinks it's a good idea to sell drugs.

"Some people, they have problems in their lives, and the only thing they can do is sell drugs, that is wrong. Its awful. Get a job," said Valdez.
