AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - One person was shot early Tuesday at Gordon Highway and Olive Road, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to the shooting around 2:20 a.m. and found 26-year-old Ronnie Dean Brown, who had been shot in the neck while in his vehicle.
Michael Oliver and Wanda Forani were at the gas station near where the shooting happened, and they said they were surprised something like this happened.
"We were just basically passing through and you know, stumbled upon the scene without even knowing," Oliver said.
"Its an outrage that something like this happens so often," Forani said.
Brown was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center, deputies said. He is listed in critical but stable condition.
But this incident has people concerned, especially with the shooter still on the streets.
"It does make a person be a little concerned for their safety that something like that can happen to anyone," Oliver said.
An employee of the gas station, who didn't want to go on camera, said he would like to see more police in the area to help cut down on the crime.
And Oliver has advice for everyone driving, no matter what time of day it is.
"Keep your eyes open, just be alert and know your surroundings. Pay attention to where you are and be conscious of where you are, because it just takes a second for something like that to happen," he said.
If anyone knows who or where this shooter is please Sgt Glen Rahn at 706-821-1604 or Crimestoppers at 800-222-TIPS for a reward up to $1,000 cash.
