Barrow visits troops overseas for Memorial Day

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

U.S. Rep. John Barrow is back on American soil after visiting troops in Afghanistan.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota led the Memorial Day weekend trip of five congressmen, including Barrow.

They even got to meet with troops from right here in the Peach State. Barrow said their visit was very productive - a bipartisan effort to honor those who sacrifice their lives for all Americans.

"I can't think of a better way to spend Memorial Day than to personally thank the active-duty men and women of our military for all they're doing for us," Barrow said. "I'm extremely honored to get to spend time with our troops from Georgia and other parts of the country.

"These men and women spend so much time away from their families so we can continue to live in the greatest country on Earth. We can't thank them and all our veterans enough for all they have done and continue to do for us. I'm looking forward to hearing from the folks on the ground during our visit, and I'm grateful to my colleagues for inviting me to participate."
