AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A 26-year-old man accused in the shooting death of another man is behind bars, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested Daniell Frank Simmons, 26, Thursday. Simmons is accused of shooting and killing 22-year-old Curtis Lemont Carter early Wednesday on 2nd Avenue, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies responded to 2nd Avenue and Bolt Drive around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found Carter lying face down on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses at the scene told deputies that Carter and Simmons were arguing when Simmons pulled out a handgun and fired several times at Carter, according to the sheriff's office.
Carter was transported immediately to GRU where he succumbed to his injuries, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said. His body will be transported to the GBI lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
Simmons is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the sheriff's office.
