Columbia Co. opens summer cooling centers

It's getting hot outside, and Columbia County is making sure folks have a cool place to take refuge from the heat.

Cooling centers opened up across Columbia County Sunday and will be open through Sept. 30.

Senior citizens, infants, children, and people with chronic medical conditions are more prone to heat stress, said Pam Tucker, EMA director for Columbia County, Air conditioning is the number one protective factor.

Here is a list of all the cooling centers:

Bessie Thomas Community Center

5913 Euchee Creek Dr., Grovetwon

7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday

Patriot's Park

5445 Columbia Rd., Grovetown

7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday

7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday

1 to 6 p.m. Sunday

Wesley United Methodist Church

825 N. Belair Rd., Evans

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday

Eubank Blanchard Community Center

6868 Cobbham Rd., Appling

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday

Laurel & Hardy Museum

250 N. Louisville St., Harlem

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday

Harlem Senior Center

405 W. Church St., Harlem

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday

Liberty Park Community Center

Newmantown Road, Grovetown

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
